Patriotic Independence Day

The sound of the drum beats on 15th August, 2019 at 8.15 a.m in our School grounds began the celebrations of the 73rd Independence Day, which thrilled the spirits and inspired patriotic passion in the students, staff and parents.

The Head Boy, Glen Sequeira, gave the first command upon the arrival of the Chief Guest, Mrs. Nisha Albuquerque, the PTA Vice President, followed by the Joint Secretary, Sr. Marie Lucy, Administrator Sr. Carissima and Principal Sr. Melissa. The Chief Guest unfurled the National Flag to the tune of the National Anthem played by the school band, followed by the singing of the Jhanda Geet. As responsible citizens of our country, the pledge was taken by all present, rendered by the Head Girl, Bhoomika.

This was followed by a cultural programme in the school auditorium. The students prayed for the safety and well being of all citizens, specially our Armed Forces on the borders and to relieve the sufferings of the flood victims in various states. A mesmerizing dance welcomed the gathering. The significance of the day was highlighted through a Power Point Presentation. The air was filled with patriotism by the melodious songs sung by the students of class IX and XI. The saga of success of Indian women was celebrated through a power-packed dance drama.

‘The Cultural Splash’, a show of traditional dresses, languages, culture and food of various states of India, was truly informative and a feast to the eye.

The theme of ‘Unity in Diversity’ was highlighted through a spellbinding dance exhibiting the multiple cultures that blended together into one great Nation.

The Chief Guest congratulating the students’ performance called them to pledge to work hard for a better India and urged them to value the freedom that they have and strive to be good citizens.

The winners of various competitions held in the school during the academic year were felicitated and the programme ended in an atmosphere of patriotism, with the distribution of sweets to the students. The programme was compered by emcees Swathi Pai, Gavin Sequeira, Aman Kumar, Simona Monteiro, Aaron Rego and Adrinaa Dias of class IX. Faye Rodrigues and Danvith Raj welcomed the gathering, while D. Puneeth and Alden proposed the vote of thanks.

On the previous day, the kindergarten and primary students had the cultural programme hosted by Class III D and E which commenced with a prayer dance giving glory to God for a free India. The vibrant group of students danced with grace and sentiments to the tune of Namaste India. A heart-warming skit “Sarfarosh” was enacted with deep sense of patriotism as a tribute to our slain jawans. The chief guest Mr. Saji Joseph in his message applauded and appreciated the power packed performance of the students. Winners of various competitions were felicitated.
