Gandhi Jayanthi Celebrations – 2015

Gandhi Jayanthi Celebrations – 2015

Nursery to Class III: Gandhi Jayanthi is celebrated by the entire nation to commemorate the birth anniversary of the Father of our Nation – Mahatma Gandhi.
A special assembly by the tiny tots of our school celebrated Bapu’s birthday in the school, a day prior on 1st October, 2015 with great zeal, enthusiasm and patriotism to pay respect and homage to Bapuji, thus making the day a memorable one.

The nursery students helped all to tune in with God, leading the gathering into prayer by a prayer song, sung with the message of the use of eyes, ears and tongue given by Bapuji. A graceful dance by the students of LKG followed to welcome all present for the celebration.

The nursery students dressed in vibrant attire from 24 different states of India came to honour Gandhiji – glorifying and showcasing how he heralded a new era for our country. The students also refreshed our memories of the Dandi March that helped to make salt affordable and also how Gandhiji encouraged about wearing homespun cotton clothes and stressed on leading a simple but noble life.

The short yet exceptionally splendid event came to an end with a graceful dance performance which helped to go a step forward in helping the children understand all about the freedom struggle and role of Mahatma Gandhi. Some children were dressed up in khadi to mark their Gandhian spirit.

The chief Guest Ms. Anna Crasta shared her views with the children, while praising their efforts made by them to honour Gandhiji. She emphasized that such a celebration would not only provide a platform for the students to showcase their talent but also would inspire them to practice Gandhian teaching in their lives to help them to bring out the Mahatma in them.

The Principal Sr. Melissa appreciated and encouraged the tiny tots for their marvellous performance.
The celebration was concluded by rendering the vote of thanks to all the parents for the encouragement by their presence. The programme ended with the slogan “Mera Bharat Mahaan”.

Class IV – XII: had their celebrations of Gandhi Jayanthi on October 2, 2015 in the open air grounds. The programme began at 8.45 am with a prayer service followed by the significance of the day given by Elkan, Bevan and Craig.

As part of the cultural programme, students of Class VIII A and B performed group songs and dances with rhythm, coordination and harmony to grace the celebration with spirit of patriotism. A skit on “honesty” was enacted highlighting the Gandhian principles of truth, peace and non violence. Speaking to the students, Principal Sr. Melissa emphasized that the best way to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhiji is to inculcate Gandhian values in our lives. We to join hands with our Prime Minister to make our country clean, not only on a day like this, but throughout our lives.
Meghana welcomed the gathering, while Leroy proposed the vote of thanks.  Saakshi and Shaima compeered the programme.

After the formal function, students from Class IV – XII were involved in the “Cleanliness Drive – Swatch Bhaarath, Swatch Vidyalay Campaign”. The classes were allotted different areas, both within the campus and the surrounding public places to clean. The students participated in it with great enthusiasm with their hats and gloves on. The cleanliness drive made the students proud to hold brooms and dusters in their hands along with their teachers and gather the waste thrown in the public places. It was indeed a day of satisfaction and joy, to be part of “Clean City of Mangalore.”
