Celebration of a Legacy : Gandhi Jayanti – 2020

Celebration of a Legacy : Gandhi Jayanti – 2020

A centenary and half, plus two years of a person’s birth, if it has to be celebrated around the world in the midst of this pandemic Covid-19, then this homage is truly fitting to the Father of the Nation for the legacy he has left behind. We took pride and privilege in celebrating the 152nd Gandhi Jayanti on our school grounds.

This time it was the staff of the school participating in this revering event. The celebration commenced with the All Faith Prayer, followed by a floral tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. The prayer service particularly remembered Shri Lal Bahadur Shashtri, one of the former Prime Ministers on his birthday and his endeavours to uplift the farmers (Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan). Our loyalty and gratitude to the Superior General of the Apostolic Carmel, Sr Maria Nirmalini A C, who celebrates her birthday today was expressed with a special prayer for her.

The Principal Sr Melissa accorded a warm welcome to the audience, and in her message, she highlighted the importance of the Gandhian principles and urged the staff and students to practice and live by them. A short programme comprising of a talk on Gandhian principles delivered by teacher Sarita Yadav indeed motivated the students and staff to introspect oneself. A video followed by an action song depicted the principles of “Home Cleanliness”.

It was not all preaching, the staff also went on a Shramadhan spree while the students did their home cleaning along with the parents as a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi who was decorated as an icon of Swatch Bharat by our Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. The programme was telecasted live on YouTube for all the students and parents (kindly click on the link to view the program – youtube.com/watch?v=gnR_dIHF_PY). The programme was compered by teacher Jenita Lobo.

We take pride to say, this pandemic Covid-19 did not deter the spirit of Mount Carmel Central School in celebrating Gandhi Jayanti who is fondly called by you and me ‘the Father of the Nation’.
