The beat of a different drum during the Inter religious festivals

The month of September ushers in an aura of festivity, gratefulness and belongingness in Mount Carmel Central School. Yes! the festivals – Nativity of Mother Mary, Onam, Ganesh Chathurthi and Bakrid was celebrated with a grateful heart to the almighty for the bounties of the five elements of earth. It was a befitting honour to Mother Mary, the patroness of our School for blessing all her children of different faiths. Prior to this day, the catholic students and staff offered Novena prayer daily to Mother Mary from 31st August as a preparation for her Birthday. The Holy Mass was celebrated on the day with great love and devotion.

The cultural programme commenced with a dance of praise and thanksgiving to God Almighty. The significance of the four festivals was highlighted through music, movement and skit by the students of Class II A and B. The guest of the day, Sr. Assumptha A.C, the Superior of Maryhill Convent appreciated the efforts of students to put up a creative programme. She cited in her message the importance of girl child and urged boys to be equally responsible in the house chores.

During the programme of Classes V – X, the students of class VIII A and B celebrated these festivals significantly through harvest dance, Konkani cultural dance and a skit on literacy. The captivating mime show was focused on ‘Save Girl Child’. The guests Ms. Lydwin Lobo, Ms. Sathi Monteiro and Ms. Edith D’Souza from Vishwas Trust were the guests. They appreciated the performance of the students. The main purpose of their presence at this programme was to motivate the children to love and respect the elderly people at home and in the neighbourhood.

A magnificently decorated Pookalam done on the occasion of Onam by the kindergarten section was the attraction of the day.
