The 5th Annual Athletic Meet 2012 of Mount Carmel Central School, Maryhill, Mangalore was held on Saturday, November 24 on the School grounds.  The inaugural function was at 8.15 am at which Dr. John Pinto, Physical Education Director of Govt. College, Kavoor was the chief guest, who received the salute from the smart and colourful Marching House teams – Blue Bells, Orchids, Anthuriums and Tulips led by the school pupil leader Rigel Rego. Principal Sr. Melissa A.C. welcomed the Chief Guest and the others. 4 eminent athletes of the school Monisha, Sonal, Sarah and Omkar lead the torch and handed it over to the Chief guest which was then placed in the prominent place on the grounds.

The oath was led by Hammad along with the flag bearers of the various Houses. In his address, he stressed the need of physical exercises in one’s daily life to keep fit and healthy and motivated the students to give sufficient time to physical exercises and make use of all the opportunities provided by the school in Sports and Games. He then declared the sports meet open by releasing the doves. The administrator of the School Sr. Carissima A.C, Vice Principal Sr. Carmel Ann A.C were on the dais. Ms. Zanet proposed the vote of thanks, while Ms. Sylvia compeered the programme.

The various athletic events followed and the valedictory was held at 12 noon at which Col. Balakrishnan (Retd) was the Chief Guest. He awarded the winners of various team games and individual champions : Omkar – senior boys; Sarah – senior girls; Shehbas – junior boys and Archana – junior girls bagged the individual championships. The overall team championship was bagged by Anthuriums.

The prize distribution ceremony of the lower primary was held in the school hall at which Mr. Jojo Mathew, Associate Professor of Speech & Audiology, MAPS College was the chief guest. He distributed the certificates and medals to the winners of various events.

It was a happy day to all at Mount Carmel, specially to the students because of the hard work of all the staff, specially the PET’s Mr. Praveen and Ms. Jayashree and the supportive staff.
